Have you ever asked yourself how to become a happier and better version of yourself?
And I can tell you, happiness is not something that happens to us by chance. Being happy is an achievable goal, but it requires constant work on your attitude and depends on how you interpret your life situation.
Happiness is largely a matter of choice. And it is probably the smartest life choice you can make. Recent studies show that happy people are 35% less likely to die early than unhappy ones!
I’m sure you have come across people who are always upbeat and no matter what life throws at them, they just seem to roll with the punches. It’s quite possible they’re following a formula for happiness–right now.
In any given moment, no matter if they are at work, home, or sitting at Starbucks sipping on a caramel cappuccino, they know that there are at least eight trillion things that they can do to suck a little more fun out of life.
Here are just 7 things that you can do to feel happier right now. I do suggest opening your agenda and choosing one to do every day for the next 7 days. Then call me (maybe) and tell me just how happy you are!
1.Start with taking a closer look at yourself
Being consciously aware of what makes you happy or unhappy can actually change your level of happiness. To do this you first need to have a deep understanding of the things that causes you to feel unhappy. It may be your job, it may be a colleague, it may be your partner. Just take a closer look at your life and find out.
When you have identified the things that make you unhappy, the next step is to identify the emotions that come up every time, you think of this person or doing that thing certain thing. Is it sadness, regret or anger?
It is hard to live a happy life when you are feeling like this. Therefore it is best to let go of everything/everyone that makes you feel like this.
When you take a closer look at yourself you will not only find out what causes you to be unhappy, you will also find out the hidden gems that are within you; These will give you the power to go into the direction of your happiness.
2. Take the path of no resistance.
Happiness is found when you are able to accept life the way it is. Too often we try to do things our way, the one way that we deem to be the most comfortable.
This is totally understandable because that is the only way we know. We believe that we must fight and work endlessly on jobs we don’t enjoy. That is of course the mentality we grew up with.
The problem with this is the more you fight against something, the harder it becomes. It’s like pounding with your bare hands on a giant concrete wall hoping it will break, thinking that if you pound harder and harder one day it surely will break.
Instead we should be in a state of no resistance. Sometimes we so badly want something that we resist the very essence of it. Resistance causes one to not live in the moment, resistance is the force that drives you to make a lot of planning for the future. Resistance is also the shortest and fastest path to unhappiness.

Resistance feels like swimming upwards the stream of a river, instead of going with the stream of the river. When you go with the flow of life you will become happy.
3. Silence your mental chatter.
Do you know where most of your unhappiness comes from? Yes, your right, between your ears.
The mind is a strong mechanism that has evolved for hundred thousands of years and is the motor of behind all of our doings. When we silence the unnecessary mind chatter, we instantly become 10% happier.
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts” – Marcus Aurelius
Being judgmental, jealous, or angry will at some point turn against you. A bad thought can trigger bad speech, just as bad words provoke bad actions. Don’t let your mind initiate anything you’d be ashamed of later.
4.Meditate and become one with nature
Meditation is a sure way to increase your happiness; it will bring you at peace with yourself, your environment and with your fellow human beings.
It will help you understand that we are not so different after all and that we all long for the same things. Meditation will give you infinite wisdom.
It is, therefore, good to step back and take some time for yourself, by yourself and meditate. You can recharge your spirit and find a little peace in a little bit of silence.
Taking some time away and being alone can do wonders for your mood and outlook. Sitting down, lighting a candle and doing some deep breathing for ten minutes are all it takes to relax your mind and body.
In doing so, you get in touch with your inner-self, and invariably, you’ll get to know yourself a little better. That’s definitely a booster on the happiness scale.
“If you make friends with yourself you will never be alone.” – Maxwell Maltz
Don’t be afraid of being alone. Happiness is internal, and you don’t need anyone or anything to be happy. Learn to have fun on your own: walk, travel, eat good food, etc. Being alone doesn’t mean that you automatically become lonely. Look at monks for example – being happy in solitude is a virtue.
5.Practice simple happiness habits.
Compassion for oneself and for others, gratefulness, empathy, volunteer your time all things you can start doing today if you don’t do them already. Things that take almost nothing of you and maybe a couple of minutes of your time. Start by doing those things and you will likely find yourself being happier than ever. All these will uplift your spirit.
6.Do What You Love
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Do what you love, because the money will follow?” Doing things that you love to do–and even better, getting paid for it–are good ways to boost your levels of happiness. When work feels like play, you’re more likely to enjoy other aspects of your life better, too.
7.Don’t Compare Yourself To Others
Comparison; the killer of confidence. This is definitely easier said than done, but if you can condition your mind to focus on the good that you are doing and the good things in your life, you’re not going to be tempted to focus on how others are doing. “Confidence is preparation. Everything else is beyond your control.” – Richard Kline
Happiness appears where dreams meet preparation. Make a conscious everyday effort to shape yourself and your life the way you want.
